1  Thomas, like Josef seemed to enjoy the power that being sheriff afforded him. Was Thomas driven by greed like Josef or was he motivated by something else?

2  Thomas seemed to be an educated man. Whereas Josef didn’t even know how to read (i.e. less educated). Did this matter to Josef or to Thomas?

3  Why did Elizabeth want Josef to move to her aunt’s house?

4  Did Elizabeth think that Josef had murdered her best friend?

5  Was Thomas a good person who was dealt a bad hand in life?
